A classic suburban tale of parenthood, bereavement and a mysterious pug. Neurotic parents Tom and Lisa have moved to what they believe is their dream home, only to have their idyllic lives shattered by Ann, a widow, and Bertie, her pet pug, who not only wakes them at night but awakens them to the afterlife.

Director Biography - Garry Crystal

Garry Crystal is a former television actor who works as a documentary editor by day. He has worked on numerous BAFTA, EMMY, GRIERSON and RTS winning documentaries. He is now pursuing a directing career. His previous short films “Bobby” and “The Fox and the Rabbit” have featured at numerous international film festivals.

Director Statement

“Bertie” explores the universal themes of parenthood and bereavement in an usual comedy. The film contrasts the end of a life with the beginning of a new one. When Tom and Lisa move home, they think that have found the ultimate countryside utopia in which they can bring up their newborn son. Until they meet Bertie, an irascible pug, who not only wakes them at night but awakens them to the afterlife.

The War of 1812 has revived violent hostilities between the British and their erstwhile American colonial subjects.
