Another Hole in the Head Film Festival presents:
"Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone" on Zoom!
Before she joined the Brat Pack and did all those John Hughes films, Molly Ringwald had her first top-billed movie role in Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone. If Star Wars had hooked up with The Road Warrior and had a baby on the down-low, this film would be it. Released to theaters in 1983, it had a higher budget than any previous 3D movie--about the same as the first Star Wars film. We couldn't figure out how to get the special glasses out to everyone, so we'll be streaming the 2D version.
Hoping to collect a hefty reward, a space adventurer named Wolff (Peter Strauss) tries to retrieve three beautiful Earthwomen who crash-landed on a ravaged planet. Before he can rescue them, the women are abducted by the mutant inhabitants and brought to their cyborg ruler, Overdog (Michael Ironside in a performance you'll never forget). On his journey to Overdog's stronghold, Wolff encounters Niki (Ringwald), a young Earthgirl who was left stranded on the planet as a child, and takes her on as a tracker. Ernie Hudson and Andrea Marcovicci have supporting roles; Elmer Bernstein composed the score.
