The AMITYVILLE HORROR with the best selling book about the Lutz family experiences was a runaway hit! It opened the floodgates to all things paranormal, conspiratorial, intergenerational family trauma and true crime. The iconic two evil-eyed shaped windows were the topping on the horror cake. Nearly 45 years later over 100s of low budget “Amityville” name only horror movies, countless podcast episodes, endless true crime docs on the Lutz Family and Ron DeFeo JR—the infamous mass killer of Amityville, a Michael Bay produced remake starring Ryan Reynolds, and a Conjuring Universe tie-in of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s Amityville experience in The Conjuring 2.
The Amityville Horror was the benchmark of house horror tales.
