A personal all-time favorite of mine and proud owner of the rare VHS! SWITCHBLADE SISTERS is a film that is a bar none an amazing mix of action packed, snappy one-liners, and an empowering girl power saga of taking on the system and putting a BIG FAT middle finger to the man!
From the king of EXPLOITATION CINEMA---JACK HILL of COFFY, FOXY BROWN, The BIG BIRD CAGE, & SPIDER BABY! This was Jack Hill's masterpiece to 1970s cinema and a secret adaptation of Shakespeare's OTHELLO. Once you've seen Switchblade Sisters---you'll know that Monica Gayle's performance of "PATCH" of the Dagger Debs is one of the best interpretation of the BARD's Iago ever put to celluloid. Not only her performance but an ensemble of over-the-top-go-for-broke performances from Robbie Lee as leader "LACE", Joanne Nail as new Dagger Deb "MAGGIE", Janice Karman aka the voice of Alvin and the Chipmunks as "BUNNY", Chase Newhart as the villainous "CRABS", Asher Brauner as the guido boy gang leader "DOMINIC", and Kitty Bruce---the daughter of the one and only, Lenny Bruce, as "DONUT". It is a wild ride through the streets and Los Angeles High school yards that twists, turns, and spits back right at you.
The film itself has gone by several names over the years, originally called "THE JEZEBELS", "MAGGIE'S STILETTO HEELS", then "SWITCHBLADE SISTERS"---the last title has stuck since the VHS days of the late 1990s due to Quentin Tarantino's obsession with this film, KILL BILL and DEATH PROOF owe a huge loving debt to this film! Plus re-releasing it under his now defunct "ROLLING THUNDER PICTURES" company. This will be the VHS version the WARPED DIMENSION is playing on Wednesday night for VHS SURPRISE NIGHT---A special introduction too by Q&T himself trying to act out the lines from the original "THE JEZEBELS" script before the VHS feature. The "Dagger Debs" are a gang of snarling girls, and Maggie is their newest member. Lace, the ever tooth-gritting leader, befriends her but soon has doubts --it seems Lace's man, Dominic, head of the "Silver Daggers" fancies the new recruit. Lace struggles to keep control of the Debs, and a handle on Nick, as they face off against the rival gang of pushers lead by Crabs.
