Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep) directed this sword-and-sorcery fantasy about a young man's search for revenge. Starring Marc Singer as the Beastmaster, Tanya Roberts as his love interest, John Amos as his mentor, and Rip Torn as his mortal enemy.
In the kingdom of Aruk, the high priest Maax is given a prophecy that he will die facing the son of King Zed. He sends one of his witches to kidnap and kill the child, but the boy is rescued by a villager who raises him as his own son. Known as "Dar," the boy learns how to fight, and discovers that he has the ability to communicate with animals telepathically. Years later, he witnesses his people being slaughtered by the Juns, a horde of fanatic barbarians allied with Maax. The only survivor of the attack, Dar journeys to Aruk to avenge his people. Over time, Dar is joined by a golden eagle, a panther, and a pair of thieving ferrets.
