The scandal of the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s "The Holy Mountain" pits illusion against truth in a hallucinogenic flood of sacrilegious imagery and existential symbolism. In a corrupt, greed-fueled world, a powerful alchemist (Jodorowsky) leads a Christ-like character and seven materialistic figures in a series of mystical rites in preparation for a journey to the Holy Mountain, where they hope to displace the gods who live there and become immortal.
